Enxurros Madeiran table wine, Red and White DOP Madeirense
Produced by Ricardo França of Sociedade Unipessoal Lda, this label is now discontinued.
The Enxurros red was produced from a blend of Tinta Negra, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the north of the island in Ponta Delgada and Boaventura near São Vicente. The climate is quite maritime and mild and in my view probably not hot enough for the grape varieties other than the Tinta Negra. Accordingly I found the wine a little thin.
The Enxurros white was produced from a blend of Verdelho and Arnsburger grapes again grown on the north of the island. IVBAM is discouraging the planting and production of the Arnsburger grape.
Some bottlings Enxurros of are still available on-line and in certain retailers on the island….its appearance on restaurant wine lists is rare.
