Before the breakwater and cruise liner terminal was built, ships just anchored in Funchal harbour.
Here we see the construction of the breakwater to form Funchal harbour.
Funchal was a very busy fishing harbour and today fresh fish is still landed in Funchal for the fish market.
The breakwater now complete and the new quay is certainly very busy.

Before the airport you arrived by ship or in the 1950’s flying boats flew down to Funchal
